FAQ
I’m a artist, manager, and/or vendor, how do I request payment?
To request payment, we simply ask that you send us an invoice containing all the details of your request. Before invoicing us, please locate and refer to the applicable purchase order (for vendors) or royalty statement (for artists). When creating invoices, include the following: PO/statement number, item amounts and taxes, payment instructions or bank account details, and full contact information (mailing address and email). We may also ask you to complete an ACH/wire authorization agreement. Once created, you may send the invoice to our Finance Group via email to finance[at]societasmusic[dot]com. Once you receive your payment, we also ask that you email us with a confirmation.
My royalties are handled by Symphonic Distribution, how do I request payment?
Payment via Symphonic is handled differently than directly within Societas Music Group (i.e., invoicing, receipt, etc.). No invoice is typically required for this. To request payment from Symphonic, first ensure your current balance is above the 50 USD threshold through the “Royalties” tab. If your balance is above the threshold, you may click the button “Request Payment”. Lastly, follow the prompts as directed and Symphonic will guide you through the next steps.
What is the difference between expenses and transfers on my statements?
When receiving your royalty or other earnings statements, you may notice columns for expenses and transfers. Expenses are approved costs that are applied to the gross sales (less returns) before royalty splits. For example, this may include recording, promotional, manufacturing, or distribution costs. If your contract specifies a 50% split between the artist and us, the artist is responsible for 50% of the expense; whereas we are responsible for the other 50%. Always refer to your contract for the exact details as specifics may vary. Unlike expenses, transfers are calculated after royalty splits and are relevant to specific artists and may include recording advances, personal advances, or standard payouts.
